Alyth

Alyth Golf Club was established in 1894 with Old Tom Morris laying out the original nine holes and James Braid adjusting and extending the course to 18 in the 1930s. As a result, it remains one of Carnoustie Country’s most impressive and popular heathland courses.

A combination of tree-lined fairways and diverse, rolling terrain means a premium is placed on precision rather than distance, although both are required. Although the course has many interesting holes, the back nine includes a trio that stand out; the 9th, 10th and 11th.

The turn may be one to savour, but the most compelling aspect of Alyth is its tranquil setting. Within the pines, silver birch and heather overlooking the hills of Angus, it is easy to lose yourself in the joy of a good game.

Pro Tips

Nearly every hole at Alyth is tree-lined. With the added feature of gorse, accuracy off the tee is vital and often doesn’t require a driver. Many of the greens are large and with the gentle slopes. Although challenging, Alyth provides huge rewards for the considered golfer.
